Mint alternative

Mint is gone. Your history doesn't have to be.

Intuit shut Mint down in 2024. Penny reads the file Mint let you export, so your years of spending come with you, and from then on everything stays on your own device. No bank login, no account, no ads.

Moving from Mint takes a few minutes

Install Penny, open Import and choose the transactions file you exported from Mint (usually transactions.csv). Penny recognises Mint's columns, sets up your accounts, matches your categories and skips anything you import twice. Undo is one click if you change your mind.

Lost your export? Most banks let you download a year or more of statements as CSV, OFX or QFX files, and Penny reads those too.

What you get that Mint never had

  • Safe to spend today: one number, after the bills still to come.
  • A plan for every paycheck, split between bills, goals, a cushion and everyday money.
  • A cash-flow calendar that marks the tight days before you reach them.
  • Insights ranked by the money at stake: price rises, double charges, fees, free trials about to end.
  • A monthly checkup and a health score you can check against published research.

But how does spending get in without a bank link?

Three ways, all private. Type it as you'd say it (“lunch 12.80 at Chipotle”). Import the statement file from your bank's website. Or, on Android, let Penny read your bank app's purchase alerts on the phone and add them for you. Nothing is ever sent anywhere.
