Budgeting when every month pays differently.
Most budget apps assume the same paycheck on the same day. Freelancers, gig workers, tipped and commission jobs don't work like that. Penny plans each payment when it actually arrives, and keeps a bigger cushion for the lean months.
How Penny handles uneven pay
A plan for each payment, when it lands
When money comes in, Penny's payday plan shows what to keep for the bills due before your next payment, what to put toward goals and your cushion, and what's left for everyday spending. A big month and a small month each get their own plan.
A safety buffer sized to your income
Penny looks at how much your income moves and suggests a target: 3 months of essentials when pay is steady, 4.5 when it varies, 6 when it's irregular. You build it in three steps, so the first milestone is close, not overwhelming.
Safe to spend, until the next payment
One number tells you what you can spend per day without missing a bill, counting only income that's actually scheduled, never money you hope for.
Tight weeks, before they arrive
The cash-flow calendar shows your expected balance on every day ahead and marks the days money gets tight, so a late invoice doesn't surprise you.
Set-asides for the lumpy costs
Insurance, car tax, yearly subscriptions and, for many freelancers, money for taxes: save a little toward each one every month, and it's kept out of your safe-to-spend number.
Private by design
Penny never asks for your bank login and has no servers. Your income and spending are encrypted on your own device. Import your bank's statement files, type payments in plain words, or on Android let Penny read your bank's alerts.
